Don’t do that is a sure path to someone doing that.
There are many reasons why.
I have found from 15 years of coaching that people operate better from good feelings.
So as a coach I have transformed from you did this wrong. To you did this wrong but you did these other two things right.
To overwhelm them by celebrating every possible thing I can.
What Do I Mean?
Inherant in every play or every drill are roughly 20 techniques within the process. In NLP they call that chunking up and down. In football we call it progressions. Its all part of a larger process called the play which is part of a larger process called a game and a season and “The Program”.
So what am I talking about?
Chin up
Chest on quads
Toes forward
feet and knees shoulder width
roll your hips/”put your buddah on it”
Hips punch arms
Thumbs up inside chest
See through his nostrils (Assuring he is low)
z in the knees
Know the count/play
Fire off the ball
Sink at impact/sit and hit
Get to the ball tips
All of this is enmeshed in effort.
Stomp your feet at impact/First Third Foot wins
Coach effort as number one!
Invariably one of these will not be perfect. Even on Super Bowl Sunday every single stud out there has something he can improve.
I am at a point in my journey that I would rather celebrate 10 or 20 wins. Than bumb out on a usually minor loss.
And the player more than likely will approach the list, so long as he knows the list. And he does because I install it daily. That he will be more motivated to improve on each one.
